Add Your Heading Text Here An intergenerational Journey Through Media Literacy at thr G. Feltrinelli Industrial Technical Institute in Milan
In the heart of Milan, at G. Feltrinelli Industrial Technical Institute, special meetings took place that went beyond the simple concept of “bridge” between generations.
The protagonists of this adventure were youth and senior people, united by a common interest in understanding and navigating the complex world of digital information. Far from being a simple exchange of knowledge, the meetings fostered an authentic osmosis of knowledge and skills.
The young people, digital natives with an innate familiarity with technologies and social media, shared their practical experience, showing how to move with ease between online platforms, apps and digital content. The seniors, keepers of precious wisdom and invaluable life experience, offered a critical and thoughtful perspective on the conscious use of media.
The seniors have become more skilled in using technologies, the children have learned that sometimes the school deviates from the ministerial program to teach other skills such as patience and empathy to one day become better adults.
The experience was extremely positive for all participants. Young people have learned to recognize the potential pitfalls of the web, developing sharper critical thinking and a more conscious approach to using the media. The seniors, in turn, have acquired greater confidence and autonomy in using digital tools, overcoming any initial fears or mistrust.
The e-EngAged project, funded by the European Commission, represents a concrete example of how intergenerational collaboration can contribute to building a more aware and inclusive digital society. The union of different skills and perspectives gave rise to a constructive and fruitful dialogue, demonstrating that the challenge of media literacy can only be faced together.
Conclusion: a model to follow for a better digital future
The project is a model to follow to promote media literacy and digital education at all levels. Combining different skills and perspectives is the key to building a more aware, responsible and inclusive digital society.
